The Maldives consists of approximately 1,190 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls, along the north-south direction, spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometers, making this one of the most dispersed countries in the world.
The temperature of Maldives ranges between 24 °C (75 °F) and 33 °C (91 °F) throughout the year. Although the humidity is relatively high, the constant cool sea breezes keep the air moving and the heat mitigated. Two seasons dominate the weather in the Maldives: the dry season associated with the winter northeastern monsoon and the rainy season.
The waters of the Maldives are home to a wide variety of ecosystems, but they are most noted for their variety of colorful coral reefs, home to approximately 300 species of fish. Seven species have been described as new to science, several more await description. Over 400 have been identified and cataloged and many are now held in the reference collection, including 5 species of turtles, 51 species of echinoderms, 5 species of sea grasses and 285 species of algae & sponges, crustaceans, and tunicates.
The islands of the Maldives are world renowned for their fantastic diving opportunities. With ideal water temperatures and clear translucent waters, there are thousands of coral reefs, enclosed lagoons, deep sea ridges and an amazing variety of marine life spread throughout 868 kilometers of the Indian Ocean. There are many dive centers, dive clubs and diving excursions across the Maldives offering a wide variety of packages and programs depending on interest and certification level.
The Maldivian economy is to a large degree based on tourism. Only 185 islands are home to its 300,000 population, while the other islands are used entirely for economic purposes of which tourism and agriculture are the most dominant.
The island of Hadahaa is set on a pristine island 400 kilometers south of Malé and offers guests a tropical paradise. Our guests can take advantage of the spectacular diving opportunities found in this atoll or experience authentic Maldivian culture through our tailor-made cultural experiences.
All visitors arrive at Malé International Airport, located on Hulhule Island which is located on a separate island from the capital city of Malé. From Malé International Airport, the common form of transfers to resorts is via sea planes, speedboats or domestic flights which are organized by the resorts themselves.
