Cocoa Island Resort
Cocoa Island by COMO is an intimate private Maldives island resort with 33 overwater suites allowing you to slip right into the turquoise lagoon to explore an exceptional house reef. Encircled with powder white sand, the carefree, understated luxury experience includes holistic wellness treatments at COMO Shambhala Retreat, South Indian-influenced cuisine and worldclass diving.
As to Cocoa Island, the resort is located in the South Malé Atoll (or South Kaafu Atoll), only 40 minutes by speedboat from the capital of Malé, which is also where the international airport is located. The equator, an imaginary line equidistant from the North and South Poles, passes through the Maldives, just south of Cocoa.
Simple yet sophisticated, contemporary yet indigenous, and always deliberately restrained—Cocoa Island by COMO is a gently cosseting Maldives luxury hotel that reflects the archipelago’s serene soul.
The style and design of the 33 overwater suites and villas are like that of no other luxury resort in the Maldives. Uniquely inspired by dhoni boats—the gently curving wooden vessels used by local fishermen—Cocoa Island’s rooms arc out from the island itself. Simple wooden walkways built above the shallow lagoon connect them, forming a sinuous boardwalk pathway.
Each room has its own private terrace, all the better for slipping into the warm Maldivian sea, right from your room. The view from the wide platform is directly out to the watery expanse and horizon. Interiors are dominated by whites and blues, with only the subtlest nod to a certain local rustic aesthetic.

Watersports Activities and Excursions
At Cocoa Island by COMO, we would like you to fully enjoy all the activities on offer — on or under the water. Cocoa Island’s Marine Sports Centre is open from 8am until 6pm, seven days a week. Renting kayaks, windsurfing boards, stand up paddle boards and catamarans are stopped at 5.30pm — the sunset is very short in the region and safety is ensured as you have to make it safely to the resort before sunset.
All activities are undertaken at the guests’ risk. The Marine Sports Centre holds no responsibility whatsoever for property damage or personal injury that may occur during such activities.
Knowing yoga in the Maldives to be popular, Cocoa Island by COMO integrates this holistic practice into the rhythm of island life by offering complimentary classes at the open-air yoga pavilion. Morning class every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8am to 9am followed by half hour of Pranayama and Meditation session. Sunset class from 4:30pm to 5:30pm every day (except Friday).
Private tuition with the full-time yoga instructor is also available for focused sessions, both for beginners who want to discover the benefits of this ancient tradition and for those looking to improve their practice.
Cocoa Island benefits from being brilliantly placed for diving, with some of the best sites in the region only a 10- to 30-minute boat ride from the resort. There are at least 25 sites nearby, including a wreck, and the waters here offer something for all levels of competence.
The resort’s expert dive instructors will gauge ability levels carefully. All divers are required to hold an International SCUBA diving license, which you will be asked to provide together with your logbook. Local regulations mean that guests must dive in buddy pairs; for safety reasons, a guide will also be provided at each dive for those staying at Cocoa Island.
This Maldives beach hotel boasts a fully equipped gym. Cardio equipment makes it easy for you to get your heart rate up, and a variety of weights is available for strength-training and muscle-toning regimens.
COMO Shambhala Retreat at Cocoa Island has one of only a few hydrotherapy pools in the Maldives. This therapy allows up to one litre of water to be absorbed into the body. The pool’s warm temperature eases muscles, meanwhile, while spiralling water jets help to increase the benefit of the pool’s massaging action. Overall, the treatment serves to stimulate the metabolism and increase the function of the lymphatic and circulation systems to detoxify tissues and expel toxins. Complimentary aquatherapy session every Wednesday and Saturday from 11am to 12noon are conducted at the hydrotherapy pool.
With private guided sessions, those looking for meditation in the Maldives can learn the healing powers of this traditional practice. Cocoa Island by COMO also offers tutelage in the deep yoga breathing technique known as pranayama.
We also conduct complimentary 30-minute Pranayama and Meditation class every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9am at the open-air yoga pavilion.

And Faru, the bar, is the place to relax with fine wines, tasteful cocktails, healthy juices and light snacks.
Unique among restaurants in the Maldives, the talented, New Zealand-born Executive Chef Shane Avant draws inspiration from the Malabar Coast’s rich gourmet heritage and local seafood. He also creates modern interpretations of Southeast Asian and Mediterranean cuisine. The kitchen’s tandoor oven allows for fat-free, flavour-rich grilling of meats, vegetables and fish.
